Self Development and Self Defence

Our aim is to provide a place where a high level of kung fu training can be learned by those with the dedication and determination to move beyond their own limitations and become more tomorrow than they may dream of today.

Kung fu teaches us to live our lives fully. It gives us skills that improve our health and fitness, decrease our stress levels and teach us to defend ourselves from the inner harms of illness and stress as well as the outer harms of people who may wish to hurt us physically or emotionally.
Kung fu literally means to attain a high level of skill through effort and perseverance.

The Jade Dragon system is a complete martial art from which any adult can gain great benefit. At it's core is Baguaquan which is one of the most higly respected martial arts ever developed. However, unlike Baguaquan, the Jade Dragon system also teaches 8 animal styles which relate to the 8 elements of Bagua. This gives a far greater flexibility in the skills of attack and defence than is seen in almost any other martial art.

The self defence aspect (taught from virtually the first lesson) includes defences against the most common types of attack found on the streets today. The skills and forms that are taught work for real. We teach no empty forms (forms that are movements only because the instructor doesn't know how to use them). This is the real deal for students who are serious about mastery of a genuine martial art.

When I joined your Kung Fu classes in September 2005 I was not sure whether my couch-potato body aged 50+ would appreciate the impact of learning the Jade Dragon system. One year later I am most happy with my experience. Your way of teaching with emphasis on physical and mental development as well as defence training has proved most beneficial for me and it is a joy to see me well integrated in your classes of somewhat younger students.
My posture, my overall body-awareness have improved recognisably (I hope you can confirm that), I have picked up methods of stress relief and calming down which come in handy especially at work, lower back-pain has disappeared - I guess due to strengthening of the muscular support of the whole body, I am not sure whether the gradual improvement of some of the blood-screen results (cholesterol, sugar, GTP, ...) can also be attributed to my training, it might well be and of course the defensive skills acquired give me a better, safer feeling when moving around in public.
I have always been very much looking forward to coming to your classes twice a week, it's anything but a chore like going to a gym.
